Young Leadership - New York Newsletter

March 2016

It's been an action packed month for Young Leadership - New York (YL-NY) and we're excited to share a recap of what's been going on! From an emotional evening at the National NY Gala Dinner to record attendance at the festive Purim Party, the week was filled with meaningful interactions with IDF soldiers and marked a powerful show of support for our community.

Thank you to all who joined our efforts.

We encourage you to read up on all our recent activities below and take a look at the many upcoming opportunities for you to get involved.

With appreciation,

FIDF NATIONAL NY GALA 2016

Raising $33.1 million for Israel's brave soldiers, the 2016 National NY Gala was record-breaking and a night to remember. The gala featured a keynote address by Israel's Minister of Defense and former Vice Prime Minister, Moshe Yaalon, and honored business magnates, philanthropists and steadfast supporters of Israel, Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson.
1,200 people attended the gala, among them over 100 Young Leadership supporters demonstrating their commitment to the FIDF and their love and support of the soldiers of the IDF.

To cap off the evening, Ashley Emrani, President of YL-NY, pledged $1.6 million on behalf of the chapter to be raised for the soldiers this year. Following the Gala, the delegation of soldiers and officers in attendance joined members of YL-NY for the annual after party.

BUSY WEEK IN NYC WITH IDF DELEGATION
TOURING NYC & THE MUSEUM OF JEWISH HERITAGE AIN'T NO PARTY LIKE AN FIDF PURIM PARTY!

On Monday, March 14, the YL-NY Board & close friends gathered at Tower 31 Lounge to kick off the week and welcome the IDF delegation prior to the National NY Gala Dinner. By far one of our favorite and most special events of the year, the VIP reception made for a great evening for all 50 supporters in attendance who enjoyed wine, delicious food, and meaningful conversation with the men and women in uniform. Time was spent hearing from all 13 of the soldiers, each of whom shared their background, IDF experience including serving during Operation Protective Edge and their appreciation for FIDF.

Thank you to Gonen Paradis for hosting us yet again and our dedicated YL-NY board and supporters for welcoming our soldiers so warmly and starting their week off with an evening to remember.

We got spirit, yes we do! In standard YL-NY fashion, we ended New York Gala week with a bang at our annual Purim Party at Lavo on March 17th as the grand finale. Event co-chairs Jeremy Burke, Talia Hermesh, Monica Emrani, Michelle Sassouni, Sapir Vangruber and Allie Wolf helped YL-NY sell out the event and bring in a crowd of 550 very excited, festive supporters. Special thanks to all that came out to join in the fun - we raised over $25,000 in celebration of Israel’s soldiers!

VIP PRE-GALA WELCOME RECEPTION DINNER YUMMY MEALS WITH YL BOARD MEMBERS!

As per our tradition every year, our delegation of 20 IDF soldiers was generously hosted by long-time FIDF supporter Ann Oster at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, where they were the first to receive a private tour of the museum’s newest exhibition, “Seeking Justice: The Leo Frank Case Revisited.” Before the tour, the soldiers were generously hosted for lunch and a small welcome ceremony.

Later that day, thanks to YL-NY Board Member Brian Mermelshtein, the soldiers were given another private tour of NYC’s very own, Madison Square Garden! We were lucky enough to not only hear about, but also see that $1 billion renovation in person, the players’ locker rooms, and step out on the floor. What a day!

Jews love food, food loves Jews. What better way for IDF soldiers to spend their week than with FIDF-YL Board Numbers and their friends on a quasi-restaurant tour of NYC? Throughout the week, YL-NY Board Members + supporters took soldiers out to restaurants for intimate conversation, hosted them at their apartment for brunch, and took them out on the town for a fun time with their friends.

Memorable mornings/afternoons/evenings such as these are a special opportunity for our YL family to build meaningful relationships with their peers serving in the IDF while also getting to know about them and their army service. We invite you to host similar events throughout the year!
